Department of Agriculture to set up Spice Park & Potato Processing Facility in HP: Dr C. Paulrasu

SHIMLA/Vivekanand Vashisht:- Dr C. Paulrasu, Secretary (Agri) to the GoHP has announced that a Spice Park & Potato Processing Facility will be set up in Himachal Pradesh by the Agriculture Department. Two MoUs were signed at Shimla on Tuesday to this effect, in the the presence of Dr Paulrasu, in view of propagating natural farming and boosting the rural economy.

Director of Agriculture Dr RS Jasrotia & Mg Director of HP Agriculture Marketing Board Hemis Negi and the Project Director Dr Sunil Chauhan of HP JICA Agriculture Project signed the MoUs with APG Foods Division & ARFM Foods for Spice Park and Potato Products Facility respectively.

 

The Department of Agriculture has entrusted the task to the HP Crop Diversification Promotion Project-II, JICA-ODA for its support for setting up the facilities on spices and potatoes in the state.

 

Spice Park for the promotion of Turmeric, Ginger and Garlic Processing Cluster (SPTGG) will be set up at Nadaun, District Hamirpur with the Primary Processing Centre (PPC) proposed at Dhaula Kuan, District Sirmaur, in a Hub and Spoke model.

 

 

A Potato Processing Plant will be set up in Una District at Dhandri Amb (2.20ha) and Pekhubela Farm (2.0 ha) with modern infrastructure and facilities.

 

The plant shall be designed for a minimum processing capacity of 10–20 MT of raw potatoes per day, or such capacity as proposed in the final approved DPR and shall ensure production of high-quality potato powder/flakes in the range of 2.5–5 MT per day, expandable in line with market demand.

 

The finished products shall have a minimum shelf life of up to twelve (12) months, subject to proper packaging and storage conditions.
