Dharamshala\/Vivekanand Vashisht:-\u00a0<\/strong>The Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project-II, JICA-ODA (HPCDP-II), is organizing 1st National Workshop on \u2018Sustainable Agriculture and Agribusiness Development\u2019 at Dharamshala from February 24 to 26. This was announced by Dr Sunil Chauhan, the Project Director here on Monday.<\/p>\n

The Hon’ble Chief Minister is expected to inaugurate the national workshop, while the Hon’ble Agriculture Minister will be the Principal Guest of Honour in the inaugural ceremony.<\/p>\n

The workshop will be attended by Mr. TAKEUCHI Takuro Chief Representative of JICA-INDIA, Dr C. Paulrasu, Secretary (Agr) to GoHP, Mr. WAKAMATSU Eiji, Senior Representative of JICA-India, Dr. R. Singh Chandel, Vice Chancellor, University of Horticulture & Forestry, Nauni, Solan and other experts of sustainable agriculture and agri-business.<\/p>\n

Dr Chauhan further said more than 300 experts and delegates from India are expected to participate in the workshop. The participants will include officials from the Government of India, Government of Himachal Pradesh, representatives of various JICA-assisted projects across the country, Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), successful agri-preneurs, agri-tech innovators, progressive farmers, and other key stakeholders.<\/p>\n

The workshop is expected to serve as an important platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and policy dialogue to promote sustainable agricultural growth and agribusiness development in the region and beyond, added Dr Chauhan.<\/p>\n

The workshop aims to deliberate on the transition from traditional crops to high-value and commercial crops to enhance the socio-economic status of farmers and their families, said Dr Chauhan<\/p>\n

He further explained the objectives of the workshop which is described as \u2018to share and promote best practices in sustainable agriculture and agribusiness development, to identify and promote relevant and scalable agri-tech interventions in farming and to strengthen institutional and marketing linkages among stakeholders.\u2019<\/p>\n

The Project Director further said that the workshop will focus on various five themes which are divided like Resource-Efficient Agricultural Practices & Climate-Resilient Farming; Technologies & Innovations in Climate-Resilient Sustainable Agriculture; Building Sustainable Value Chains and Inclusive Market Access in Agribusiness; Public Private Partnership (PPP) Models in Sustainable Agriculture & Agribusiness; and Promoting Agribusiness Start-ups.<\/p>\n

Dr Chauhan said that the group discussions will be held to finalize recommendations for value addition in future programmes. A field visit to the HPCDP Project-II sites for delegates has also been planned, he added.<\/p>\n

Narrating the details, the Project Director recalled that Rs 1010 crore Phase-II of the Himachal Pradesh Crop Diversification Promotion Project is also assisted by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), started in July 2021 till 2029, and has completed its half term. The expected outcomes of the workshop include creation of irrigation systems in over 8000 hectare area of 296 sub-projects benefiting 30,000 families and conversion of about 7000 hectare area for crop diversification.<\/p>\n
